The Science Behind Internal Family Systems
For those of you who love to learn and want to see the science behind our “parts work.” Dr. Tori Olds does a great job of teaching on IFS and the science. Here you will find a series of videos on IFS.

Havening
This is a great practice to help you snap out of anxiety. Try this and see how your body responds. This is a great way to calm down when you are dysregulated.

Trauma Prayer
Jim and Pat Banks have a healing ministry, and they have made this prayer to help release stored trauma. This may be a good prayer to listen to for several days to allow your body to release. Science teaches us that your body holds your trauma story.
Create a PRACTICE that you love coming home to.
Practices change us.
It’s the returning that transforms us—the returning to our breath, to our bodies, to praise, to truth, to God, and ultimately, to ourselves.
You don’t have to do everything. Cultivate the practices that work for you. Find a rhythm you can return to again and again.
Try a few:
● Breathe — Take 10 slow, intentional breaths. Try breath prayer (Yah Inhale—Weh Exhale), box breathing (4 counts each inhale, hold, exhale, hold) or simply lengthening your exhale.
● Ground — Put your feet on the earth. Notice five things around you. Step outside, feel the sun, drink your tea slow and intentional, or take a slow walk without your phone.
● Move — Stretch, shake out tension, dance to one song, or take a gentle walk. Let your body release what it has been carrying.
● Be Still — Spend a few minutes in silence, meditation, contemplative prayer, or simply noticing God’s presence.
● Return to Truth — Journal, read Scripture slowly, write a declaration, or repeat a truth your heart needs to remember.
● Praise — Put on worship music, practice gratitude, or speak aloud what is still good.
● Daily Yes — Create a simple morning and evening rhythm that reminds your nervous system and your soul: I am here. I am safe. I am loved. I can say yes to this day.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s return.
Find what brings you home—and practice returning.
Couples Work
Finding Us Homework
As part of our work together, I may invite you to begin the journey of Finding Us. This downloadable exercise will help you remember what first brought you together and begin shifting the space between you toward greater connection, passion, and understanding.
Love Language Quiz
As part of our work together, I may invite you to complete the Love Language Quiz as a couple. Take turns asking each other the questions so you learn not only your spouse’s love language, but the unique ways they experience it. This helps you move beyond simply trying to show love to intentionally sowing seeds of love that truly reach your spouse’s heart.
The Four Horseman
The Gottman Four Horsemen exercise helps us recognize the communication patterns that can damage a relationship. You will identify which pattern you tend to move toward, understand its harmful impact, and learn to intentionally keep it from taking up space between you. (See video on page)
A Call to Courage: Video
The Call to Courage is a Netflix special with Brené Brown that explores the power of vulnerability. As part of our work together, I may invite you to watch it and begin using the phrase, “The story I’m telling myself is…” This language can help you share what you are feeling without blame, build understanding, and return to connection when you feel disconnected.
Generational Prayers
When we see patterns repeating in our family, it is wise to do generational bloodline cleansing. In case you do not have a connection with someone to guide you through these prayers, I have attached a prayer guide.
I recommend you do this with a witness, a spouse, or a family member.
If, in doing this work, you feel like there is more to be done, I recommend contacting a ministry like:
